Abraham Darby

Shrub Rose

A well-rounded shrub bearing numerous, very large, cup-shaped flowers in shades of apricot and yellow, becoming tinted with pink as they age. It has a rich, fruity fragrance with a refreshing sharpness.

The growth is vigorous and hardy in all areas. It repeats well but summer pruning will encourage a better crop of flowers and help maintain a more compact plant.

Carding Mill

Shrub Rose

A flower of beautifully mixed shades of pink, apricot and yellow, overall, giving the impression of rich apricot. At the bud stage, when the petals are just starting to unfurl, the inside of the petals are a very rich, deep apricot as opposed to the paler, soft yellow undersides. When fully open the center of the flower is well filled with petals, their closeness giving the impression of a rich, apricot - pink. Around the center, the loose ring of petals curl in slightly and so show their pale apricot yellow undersides. It will quickly make a lovely, bushy, rounded shrub with quite straight stems, the many flowers nodding just slightly. There is a strong and beautiful myrrh fragrance.

The Dark Lady

Shrub Rose

A dark crimson rose, with rather loosely formed flowers that open wide and hang elegantly. They have a special character of their own, reminiscent of the flowers of tree peonies, as sometimes depicted on fabrics and wallpapers. There is a light Old Rose fragrance.

William Shakespeare 2000

Shrub Rose

William Shakespeare 2000’s’ exquisite blooms are of the richest velvety crimson and over time gradually change to an equally rich purple. They are deeply cupped at first, the flowers soon opening out to form shallow, quartered cups. This rose has the strong, warm Old Rose fragrance that we expect, but do not always find, in deep red roses.

Crown Princess Margareta

Shrub Rose

‘Crown Princess Margareta’ bears quite large flowers in a lovely shade of apricot-orange, which shows up well across the garden. The flowers are in the form of neatly arranged rosettes filled with many petals, which mingle to excellent effect in the centre of each bloom; the outer petals falling back and becoming paler. There is a strong, fruity fragrance of the tea rose type.

Charlotte

Shrub Rose

Bears exquisite flowers of a soft yellow colour. These start off beautifully cupped, later opening out to form rosettes. Each bloom is packed with numerous small petals, arranged around a classic button eye. There is a delicious, medium-strong tea rose fragrance. It is very free-flowering and repeats well. This is one of the most beautiful English Roses and, for those with particularly cold winters, it is also one of the hardiest.

Jubilee Celebration

Shrub Rose

Named in commemoration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee. The large, domed flowers are a lovely rich pink with tints of soft gold on the underside of the petals, each bloom being elegantly held well above the foliage. Despite the size of the flowers, they are produced with exceptional freedom and continuity. The growth is vigorous, building up into a fine shrub. Very healthy and reliable. It has attractive, glossy foliage. The scent of the young flower is almost pure lemon zest, later becoming a delicious, fruity rose fragrance with hints of fresh lemon and raspberry. Excellent throughout the US including the challenging hot and humid climate of the south east.

Mary Rose

Shrub Rose

‘Mary Rose’ bears attractive, rose pink, loose-petalled blooms of medium size, which flower with unusual regularity throughout the summer. The delicious fragrance is of Old Rose character with a hint of honey and almond blossom.

Princess Alexandra of Kent

Shrub Rose

‘Princess Alexandra of Kent’ has unusually large flowers of a warm, glowing pink. They are full-petalled and deeply cupped in shape; the ring of soft pink outer petals enclosing the warm pink inner petals, creating a most pleasing effect. In spite of their size, the flowers are never clumsy and are held nicely poised above the foliage. They have a delicious fresh tea fragrance which, interestingly, changes completely to lemon as the flowers age – eventually taking on additional hints of blackcurrants. Very healthy.

Princess Anne

Shrub Rose

‘Princess Anne’ is an exciting new development from an entirely new line in breeding. Whilst it retains the classic full-petalled flowers of an English Rose, its overall character is very different from any other rose we know giving it its own very special beauty. The young flowers are deep pink, almost red, gradually fading to a pure deep pink as the blooms mature. The petals are rather narrow and unusually substantial with a pleasing hint of yellow on their undersides. The flowers are produced over a long period and held in large clusters; the individual blooms opening in succession. There is a medium-strong tea rose fragrance. Very healthy.
